Washington County, PA has a new family court judge, as of November 30, 2010. Judge Phillippe A. Melograne is now our second family court judge. Judge DiSalle will continue to work in family court. Judge Melograne was nominated by Governor Rendell and confirmed by the State Senate in October. He will fill the remaining term of the late Judge Mascara, until January 2012. Elections will be held in 2011 for the judicial term that begins in 2012. Judge Melograne has announced his intention to run for that open seat. Other candidates are also expected to run.
Assignment to one of the two Judges is based on the last name of the Defendant in the case. Judge DiSalle will handle last names beginning in A-K and Judge Melograne will handle last names beginning L-Z. For example, Judge DiSalle would handle the case of Smith v. Jones while Judge Melograne would handle the case of Jones v. Smith. Existing cases will be assigned to Judge Melograne, based on the alphabetical test.
Motions and trials will be held in Courtroom #4, which is on the top floor of the courthouse. Motions Court for Judge Melograne will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 9:00 a.m. in Courtroom 4.
